Designee Naidoo became the new Chief Executive Officer of Vedanta Resources. With nearly three decades of experience in the resource sector, she has held many leadership roles in many companies across the globe.
Naidoo’s three decades of experience
Naidoo previously worked with the company from 2014 to 2020. During this tenure, she served in a senior leadership position, where she was the CEO of Africa Base Metals and the CEO of Vedanta Zinc International. She was responsible for overseeing operations across Africa as well as managing the copper mines in Australia.
Naidoo began her career in 1998 at Anglo American Platinum in a technical position. Eventually, she was promoted to Chief Financial Officer at Anglo American Therma Coal in 2011. She was associated with the company for over 15 years, and she managed operations in Africa, South America, and Australia.
Before returning to Vedanta as CEO, Naidoo was working with Vale Base Metals as CEO. Vale is a leading global organization for nickel and copper production. During her time in the company, he gained a reputation in the mining industry.
“Deshnee joins us at an exciting phase in our journey. After an amazing 25 years in which we have emerged as India’s champion in the resources sector, we are now embarking on a new phase of growth that will make us a $100 billion critical minerals, energy, and technology company, serving India and the world.” Anil Agarwal, the Chairman of Vedanta Group, expressed this sentiment upon Naidoo’s return.
Naidoo’s leadership
Naidoo supports and advocates diversity and inclusion in the mining sector. In May 2018, she was the only woman appointed to the board of the Mineral Council of South Africa. At that period, she held such a high position, which portrays female inclusion in a male-dominated industry.
With her appointment, Vedanta is set to unlock other potentials and opportunities in the sector. Naidoo’s leadership and experience of 27 years will drive growth and position the company as a key player in the global resource industry.
