Jio shakes hands with Elon Musk to bring Starlink to India

Under this agreement, Jio will be responsible for the distribution of Starlink equipment via its immense retail network. This installation support will ensure the seamless adoption of the connection for consumers and businesses. This perfectly aligns with Jio’s initiative to provide affordable internet connectivity.

The Group CEO of Reliance Jio, Mathew Oommen, says, “Ensuring that every Indian, regardless of where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority. Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all.”

SpaceX has made efforts in 2022 to enter the Indian market. However, due to government restrictions, Musk had to refrain from accepting preorders from the market. With the help of the big telco giants of India, Jio and Bharti Airtel, Starlink is set to enter the market after proper approval from the government. Their main motive is to create a significant change in India’s internet connectivity.

“Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone and further demonstrates our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity,” expressed Airtel’s MD and VC Gopal Vittal.

India is set to step foot in the advanced satellite technologies and enhance its digital infrastructure. These developments highlight the integration and collaboration of advanced satellite technology and contribute to the growth of the digital economy.
