The aim of the visit is to strengthen the bilateral ties and address the key issues like trade and strategic cooperation.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of India, welcomed the Vice President at the Palam Airport, where he received a ceremonial Guard of Honour. His meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled today to discuss and finalise a proposed bilateral trade agreement and also focus on the India-US relations.
Both nations are aiming to increase the bilateral trade by $500 billion by 2030. The visit is intended to properly finalise the trade negotiations between the two countries. India has shown willingness to decrease certain tariffs on US products so that they can have greater access to the Indian market.
“The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review the progress in bilateral relations and the implementation of the outcomes of the India-US Joint Statement issued on February 13 during the visit of the Prime Minister to the US. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest,” said the Ministry of External Affairs.
The visit is not only about official agreements but also involves a tour to some famous tourist places of India, like Agra and Jaipur. The Vice President is also here to deliver a keynote address at the US-India Business Summit at Rajasthan International Centre. This summit also focuses on the bilateral trade and investment opportunities. The visit highlights the importance of the US-India partnership and the maintenance of diplomacy amid the tariff wars.
